讲座人介绍:   杜赞奇（Prasenjit Duara）教授，出生于印度，并在印度完成大学教育。后负笈美国，师从美国中国研究泰斗孔飞力（Philip Kuhn）教授，荣获哈佛大学博士学位。曾任美国芝加哥大学历史学系教授，兼任历史系系主任暨芝加哥大学中国研究委员会主席。现任新加坡国立大学莱佛士人文讲座教授，兼任新加坡国立大学人文学部主任暨亚洲研究院院长，以及芝加哥大学终身荣休教授。杜赞奇是享誉国际学界的著名学者，著作被广译为中文、日文、韩文和欧洲多国语言出版发行，深受好评。第一本专著《文化、权利与国家：1900——1942年的华北农村》（斯坦福大学出版社），曾先后荣获1989年度的“美国历史学会费正清奖”以及1990年度的“亚洲研究学会列文森奖”。第二本专著《从民族国家中拯救历史：质疑现代中国叙事》（芝加哥大学出版社），中文译本已于2003年面世。杜赞奇教授其他著作包括：独著Sovereignty and Authenticity: Manchukuo and the East Asian Modern (Rowman 2003)；编著Decolonization: Now and Then (Routledge, 2004)；合编A Companion to Global Historical Thought (John Wiley, 2014)。新书The Crisis of Global Modernity: AsianTraditions and a Sustainable Future将于2014年末由剑桥大学出版社出版。    

讲座内容介绍:   Historically this region known as Asia had no strict boundaries,it was densely interconnected by trade and religion, evidenced in cultural practice (theirrituals, arts and crafts). These informal networks had profound implicationson the relationship between culture and society across this region. Today, there is an emerging consensus that continuing our pursuit of existing modes of production, consumption and the political economic arrangements that underpin them will endanger planetary sustainability sooner than we realize. I willdemonstrate how the intersection of differing cultural ideas can provide an alternate framework to rethinking the future of this regions’ cultural cosmopolitanism.
